This packing list template and price list are specifically for current clients of Bayou Bones and Tan LLC. If you want to send your hides to our shop, please contact The ROOKIE at 337-717-9550 to inquire about space availability. Please Note: We do not service the public, we only work with Taxidermists. If you want The ROOKIE to work on your hides, please have your taxidermist contact him at the number above. If you send hides to us without speaking to the rookie and confirming space availability, we will charge you shipping and then send it back to you!!
A packing list is mandatory for the shipment of any hides WITH a date and the name of your company on the packing list. The date is extremely important to put on your packing list as well as on the box itself. By doing this, you can help us maintain an accurate inventory of orders. Additionally putting the date on the packing list and box also helps us maintain and maybe even improve your turn around time. If you do not send your boxes with a packing list, I will charge you shipping and then send your hides back to you!
It doesn't have to be our packing list as long as the packing list you send has a DATE, company name, quantity, species, and whether it is a cape, 1/2 life-size, life-size, or a soft tan.

Excessive Length Fee
Any capes that are more than 6” past the armpit will be considered pedestal and will be up charged due to more skin to pickle, shave, tan and oil-18% upcharge.
- We do not cut any capes to length. What you send is what will be tanned and charged for. We will not cut a Lifesize down to a half-life size, we will not cut a pedestal cape to a regular cape length etc. etc. We will tan and charge what you send.
Improper Fleshing Fee
Hides that are improperly fleshed are subject to either a 30% upcharge or a refusal.
Critter Fee
Any shipments with moths or beetles will be charged as a 2 week rush order, which means the client will pay 100% EXTRA as the hides the hides will be pushed out in 2 weeks to prevent contamination to the rest of the tannery.
Re-shave Fee
We do not re-tan hides from other tanneries, however we do offer a re-shave service at 30% of the listed price on our pricelist.
Tube Fee
Any large, tubed animal hides such as nilgai, buffalo, extra-large hogs, etc. will be split down the back to allow for a thorough and precise shave at 15% upcharge.
Storage Fee
We will reach out to you before we start on your order to make sure you are ready to pay your bill. After your order is complete, you will have 7 days to pay in full. If you do not pay within the 7-day time frame, we will charge a $5 per day, per hide storage fee. After 30 days, if you don’t not pay the invoice in full, in addition to the storage fee, we will consider the skins abandoned and sell to recoup our time, labor, and chemicals. Please let us know when we reach out to you if you need more time. We value communication, no fees will be charged if you cannot pay for your hides, only if you let us know before we begin work. We will not work on the hides until you can pay.
Shipping fee
We ship out via ups/FedEx only.
Client pays for shipping to and from the tannery.
You must pay your bill in full before anything leaves the tannery. NO EXCEPTIONS
If you want Insurance on your skins, you MUST REQUEST AND PAY FOR IT
Do not ship skins until they are completely dry.
If your hides show up with mold, we may or may not refuse it, prep your skins accordingly.
Finder’s Fee
We will not piece out skins. If you send a batch, you will get them all back at the same time. If we must go digging through hides to find a specific skin for you, you will be charged $150 fee. If you want a smaller batch confirm with us when you send your shipment, before we inventory and store the skins. You must also separate the skins into the batches that you want separately tanned, either in a separate box or you can separate them before dropping off.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW
- Contract agreement must be signed before any work is started.
- All tanning is done at owner’s risk.
- We will punch your hides for you. You should still punch and tag your own hides for your records.
- We only accept salted skins.
- If you send In hides with unturned noses, lips, and eyes, they will remain unturned. Please prep your skins properly. We will split African noses at no charge.
- You MUST SEND A PACKING LIST!! We will send back a package without a packing list. You can go to our website: Bayoubonesandtan.com and print one up. You will need to list the species, quantity, whether it’s dry tan or wet tan and if it’s a cape, 1/2 Lifesize or Lifesize. You don’t have to use our packing list if your list has all the information above.
- Wet tans will be bagged up after allowed to slightly dry out to prevent any liquid in the packages.
- DO NOT WASH OUR WET TANS!!!! We wash every skin that leaves our shop. Please do not wash or soak our wet tans.

Bayou Bones and Tan is a small-scale boutique tannery. We work with a select few of amazingly talented taxidermists that we appreciate and value to no end. We pride ourselves in the quality of “The Rookie’s” work. We truly care about each and every hide that comes through our shop and honestly believe that each hide is of the utmost importance and deserves detailed attention. Because of this, our list of rules may be extensive but will allow us to give the appropriate amount of attention and care to each hide to produce the result we know you and your clients will value for years to come. We feel very honored that you have chosen Bayou Bones and Tan LLC to care for your hides and will always be here to answer questions or to have a friendly conversation in a family-oriented atmosphere.
